Default Picks Handling 2013-09-01

This is one of the most ironic subjects as it gets a lot of attention when people miss making a pick, and we spend all sorts of time figuring out how we are going to take care of these players who simply don't take the time to review their picks well.

All that being said, we're looking to improve how default picks are handled. There are a few important things to note if you have special options enabled in your pool that will conflict with trying to make default picks.
For example, if you specify that players are to make mininum or maximum numbers of picks that are different than the actual total on the schedule, you can end up with issues, so we try to block that from happening by not allowing default picks in situations where they should not be.

Even still, there are ways to create the perfect storm with your options, and one should be careful.

Lets get on to how default picks are handled.
1. The first stage where a default pick may get set is when a player is filling out the picksheet, and a pick is forgotten. This will still fill in, and add a message onto his email stating this. That way the player can review the picks, and if there is something that he doesn't like, he can still change it.

2. When early games get cutoff, if default picks are enabled, a pick has to be inserted as soon as possible. We have tuned the scoring routine to identify this, and drop the pick in while doing the scoring. It may take a half an hour from the open of the game for the pick to register, and be scored, but this is where the first "live" occurence of default pick insertion is done.

3. Sunday morning when the main slate of games gets going, the rest of the picks will be inserted. This could result in afternoon games also getting inserted, the programming is still being looked at for this to see if there is a way to branch the pools who cutoff at game time from those who cutoff in the morning.

Confidence Value setting. This season we're adding the ability for your confidence values to be randomly generated through the schedule of games if you forget to put a value on.

Over Under picks have never had a default setting, but we're going to look at doing a "coin-flip" type approach and see if we can apply a pick this way when people forget their over under pick.

IMPORTANT - we have added to the changelog any picks that get inserted by default, so you can see the time your players picks were set, and it includes a note that it came from the scoring routine.

This feature will be an ongoing work in progress, so feel free to let us know ideas you may like to see.

NFL Confidence Pools 2011-08-28
A confidence pool takes your standard pickem, and pushes it to a new level. With confidence style picking, you are given values from 1 to X. X is the number of games in a week. If your pick is correct, you are awarded that many points. It can make for some high point weeks if you can accumulate some wins. This image shows how the picksheet works. First you select your pick, and then click on the confidence box, and select the value you wish to place on that game. If you`re really confident, you place a high value like 16 on that game. more...
Managing Your Pool 2011-08-27
Probably one of the most important functions of your pool is the ability for you to manage it. When you setup a pool with superbrawl, your player id is setup as the manager of the pool in addition to being a player. This gives you the ability to launch your manager console, while you are playing, viewing a trashtalk board, doing your survivor picks, or just showing up to view your pool. To launch the manager console of your pool, login using your player id and password, and you will see this tools icon in the login bar.
